An award-winning dory!

The Dory ShopWe’re finally back from the 20th annual WoodenBoat Show held at Mystic Seaport, CT June 24-26. It’s a long drive and at points, a lot of traffic for some country bumpkins to endure but so worth it to see the fantastic work on display at this unique boat show!

While at Mystic we had the pleasure of reacquainting ourselves with a number of proud dory owners including Bob, who owns a big Newfoundland dory (18 ft on the bottom), Leon, who has refurbished dozens of boats over his lifetime including a few Banks beauties, and the Peers family of Long Island who recently acquired one of our big Fishmaker dories.

And as always we delighted in hearing the lovely ‘dory stories’ of the people who dropped by our booth; folks who told us they had dories as children, went fishing or Irish mossing or picnicking or adventuring in them – even one fellow who used an old abandoned dory to catch eels in!

Then on Saturday night, we learned that our Black Rocks dory had earned the honourable mention in the Professionally Built, Manually Powered category of the Concours d’Elegance. A true honour, especially when we viewed the über fancy kayak that took first place.

(Dory Plug presented Jay with his beer stein prize today. He plans to christen it as his kick-off to the long Canada Day weekend!)

On the way home, we delivered this prize-winning dory to a client in Peabody, MA.
